The Masonic slipper pin is a small lapel pin in the shape of a blue slipper. Many wives, daughters and widows wear one of these slippers on a coat or dress when traveling alone. For many years this pin has served to identify loved ones of Masons to other members of the craft. The origin of this symbol comes from the book of Ruth and is as follows:

"Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor: and this was a testimony in Israel. So the kinsman drew off his shoe and gave it to Boaz. Boaz held it up for all in the gate to see. He asked them to be witnesses that he became Naomi's protector, Ruth's husband, and a redeemer of Elimelech's property."

Thus, today we have the little blue slipper as an emblem of the protective influence of Masons for their wives, daughters and widows.

Congratulations to West Gate's new Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Neil Sammy, and the team of Officers for the coming year!  After a great banquet where every seat was filled, over 107 members and guests packed the Lodge room to witness Bro. Sammy be Installed as the new Master of the Lodge. This was an amazing 8% increase over the 99 Masons that attended last year's ceremony.  Although difficult to quantify it is estimated the new Master increased the brethren's enjoyment at least 50%.

Thanks to the many visitors, members and guests who assisted throughout the evening making for a memorable occasion.

The Masonic C.h.I.P. program was an overwhelming success once again this year, as the weather was perfect on Saturday (not so much on Sunday).  With the support of West Gate Lodge and the many volunteers who came out to assist, we were able to issue 52 kits; an increase from last year's totals.

With a cheering heart, I would like to say thanks to the wives, and the members from West Gate and other lodges throughout the District, who came out to assist.  Without you, the event would not have been such a success.  It is difficult to adequately express the thanks I received from each parent; but rest assured that you have put many hearts at ease through your efforts.  

May the G.A.O.T.U. look after our children, and may the parents never have to open the kits that we gave them.

The annual Streetsville Bread & Honey Festival once again had the dedicated members of River Park and West Gate Lodges participating.  Saturday saw a record breaking day thanks to the brethren and friends who  supported  this successful endeavor.

Thanks go out to the brothers who were instrumental in organizing this annual event that supports our building as well as the community at large collectively. Thanks also to the many Masons, family members and friends that lent their support by volunteering for this great fundraiser. You are the machine that keeps the wheels of Streetsville Masonic Temple rolling.
