It was a busy schedule for West Gate Lodge last night as the W.M., officers and members welcomed University Lodge 496 as official visitors. A busy night was planned with a DeMolay presentation, a passing and a proving. W. Bro. Sammy completed this evening with military precision.
The evening started with a DeMolay presentation. Seven members of the Mississauga Chapter of DeMolay, led by their Master Counsellor and accompanied by four mentors attended the lodge. They performed an opening and closing. We also enjoyed a presentation about the history of their order explaining the connection to freemasonry. This special event concluded with question and answer session. It was very well received by everyone in attendance. Outstanding job by two of West Gate's members! Bro. Murray was flawless as he completed his examination and was passed. Bro. Davies performed a flawless proving. After the meeting we enjoyed a great banquet with an outstanding buffet and program. Thanks Jamie and Barb! R.W. Bro. Woods informed the brethren that he being the chair of the Masonic Foundation of Ontario would be making a sizeable donation to further the fight against youth drug abuse within our communities. The Foundation funds initiatives such as these throughout Ontario that are non-Masonic in nature. It shows how Masonry assists all in need, Mason or not.
The Remembrance Day Parade and ceremony in Streetsville was extremely well attended by local residents who took time to reflect on those whom have paid the ultimate sacrifice and also to those who still actively serve in order to protect our freedoms at any cost. 23 Masons from River Park and West Gate Lodges came out to honour our fallen and to place a "Wreath of Remembrance" at the Cenotaph as a constant reminder to us all to "never allow this to ever happen again". Mayor MaCallion gave a final address to those who serve and to those who will never return with the strong support by Mayor-Elect Bonnie Crombie. |
